About us
North Leigh Pre-school operates from a purpose built Early Years building in the grounds of North Leigh Primary School. We are a registered charity and run by a volunteer management committee.

The village of North Leigh is only 3 miles outside of the market town of Witney - direct route via the A4095 to Woodstock.

We provide sessional and full day care childcare places for children aged 2 -4 years old for 38 weeks a year, during term time only, in line with the North Leigh Primary School calendar.

We offer a competitively priced, safe and friendly environment for learning through play. An ideal setting for getting your child ready for school and to help develop their true potential.
A peek inside our pre-school
We've included this visual look at some of the things we do here at pre-school.
More information about the learning that takes place and the Early Years Foundation Stage can be found here:
Our book corner is a warm and welcoming area for the children to explore the magic and wonder of stories, rhymes, poetry, and gain information and knowledge from reference books.
Activities:
Here we show an example of vehicles and dinosaurs which are a popular choice with most of the children, but we plan lots of different activities for the session around the children's interests and supporting their next steps. It is a wonderful opportunity to show the children that we value their opinions and choices, which in turn helps develop their self esteem. It supports communication and language development as the adults engage with the children - using opportunities to introduce new words to their vocabulary or practising speech and consolidating the knowledge of speech they already have.
Look what we've been doing!
Our outside whiteboard gives parents and carers information on what we are doing at pre-school. We also send out a weekly 'Look what we've been doing!' newsletter.
Roald Dahl Day and The Enormous Crocodile story.
We include themed/topic sessions where we can still support interests and next steps for the children. For example: Crocodiles co-existed with dinosaurs so this activity allowed the children to extend their knowledge and make links. It also encourages the children to explore new interests such as painting and being creative.
Examples of some of the wall displays that the children have made over time.
This display was made when we were teaching the children about the change in seasons. It is an ongoing display as the children often have ideas to add to it.
This was made when we looked at the life cycle of the butterfly.
The children looked after caterpillars and observed them change from chrysalis to butterfly before releasing them in our garden.
Our Under the Sea display
Our Under the Sea theme carried on in the nappy changing area. Lots of interest for the children to observe and talk about during their nappy changes.
Our themed Pirate Day
The children thoroughly enjoyed our pirate themed day. Staff and children dressed as pirates.
We made treasure maps which finished in the sand pit where the children hunted for buried treasure. We walked the plank (balancing), printed/painted hand paint parrots and played with the pirate ship.
Lots of imaginative play taking place!
Library books
Each child has a library book bag which they can take home regularly
Our Travelling Bear
This is Barney Bear. He is one of our travelling bears. He has two brothers, Ted and Otto.
Children take turns to take a bear home for a few days. They come with a storybook about them, a change of clothes and a diary.
Autumn 2023
The children had great fun making scarecrows, together with lots of crows, for the garden
Thank you
We hope that you have enjoyed this pictorial glimpse of some of the things we do at North Leigh Pre-school. We do so much that it is difficult to show over a few pages, but we hope that this has given you a view of some of the things we do here.
Our aim is to make the pre-school a fun and enjoyable place to learn through play for the children.
Our staff members are dedicated to doing this as we hope the next few photos show.

Warm and welcoming smiles greet the parents, carers and children into the setting.
Staff are happy to dress-up on themed days!
This was for World Book Day!

Face painting is offered to the children at the end of term and different fundraising events.

A child asked our manager, Angela, if they could paint her face!
